the word on bob

By Flower Tops:

I remember Bob Switzer from Radio St. Marys back in the 70's. Bob was that cool dude in black that nobody could quite figure out. Back then it was all about Grand Funk, Uriah Heep, Alice Cooper and Bob got fed up and invited us to his apartment to broaden our horizons musically. How he knew how to pull out a special album from the thousands he had I will never know. That night changed my life.

I discovered a life long love of the blues from Bob. For three hours he took is from Africa to the Appalachians. It washed over us, Muddy, The Wolf, Link Wray, Missippi John Hurt, JB Lenoir, Sonny Boy on and on. This guy I always thought to be "stand offish" opened up his home and his heart to complete strangers and touched us withis passion for music. Its a gift I have cherished all my life.

On a whim tonight I searched his name and learned he passed away and I was saddened. I have an image of him in my mind standing in the lobby of the Rebecca Cohen before a concert in this outrageous purple velvet tuxedo jacket. I think I will put it up on the wall of my memory and remember him.

So long mojo man!
